How to make the best cottage pie [ with video ]

Cottage pie is a great low cost comfort food you can serve for dinner any night of the week. The best thing is the left overs the next day. Here is a quick video care of NZ Beef + Lamb.

Cottage pie ingredients - what you will need

Base:

  • 1kg of beef mince
  • 1 Onion
  • 2 Celery sticks
  • 150ml of red wine
  • 1 Tbsp spoon of tomato paste
  • 2 Pinches of thyme
  • 2 pinches of parsley
  • Salt & pepper to season
  • 1 can of tomatoes

Topping:

  • 1.2kgs of potato - mashed
  • 200ml Milk
  • 25g Butter
  • 1cup of cheese
  • 1 Tbsp of smoked paprika

Cook time: Bake for 30 minutes at 190 degrees.

Make a double batch of cottage pie and freeze one. You will really appreciate it on those weeknights when you can not be bothered cooking. Simply steam a few veggies and you are good to go.
